The journey of establishing Davao Vision College from vision to reality

The Vision
In 2007, Rev. Dr. Kim Won Sun, a senior pastor and chairman of the Board of Yeomchang Central Presbyterian Church in Seoul, South Korea, had the vision to start a non-sectarian school or college to train students to become leaders of their community, equipped with knowledge, values, and skills and possibly become local and foreign missionaries to other countries. With the help of Rev. David Sang, a Korean missionary assigned to Mindanao, particularly in Davao City, three hectares of land were purchased for the school. Rev. Iluminado D. Macahig, Jr. a Filipino Pastor, Dr. Cheol Woo Lee, a Korean Missionary and President of the Koinonia Theological Seminary, and some other Korean missionaries helped in laying down the foundation of DVC.
The Beginning
In 2008, Rev. Kim In Han, a Korean Missionary from Seoul, South Korea, who had previously been assigned as a missionary to China, was commissioned to help administer the college, particularly in supervising funds for building construction and preparing related documents for CHED recognition to start the college. Dr. Fidel D. Japos, a Supervisor in the Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office XI, was to assist in preparing the documents. with Dr. Rosita J. Bustamante, Chief Program Specialist of CHED Regional Office XI, and Rev. Abdon C. Canonoy, Jr., a former Dean of one of the colleges in Davao City was also asked to come to uphold in preparing papers. A College Board was created in April of 2008. With the collaborative efforts of Dr. Bustamante and Rev. Canonoy, the SEC Registration and Application of permits for five courses to the CHED Regional were realized. SEC registration was formally approved on April 30, 2008, and the CHED permits for Bachelor of Arts in Theology (AB-Theology), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) were approved in February 2009.
The Growth
In 2010, a new missionary couple, Engr. Yoon Bum Eui and Kim Won Suk, took over the finance administration and missionary work, serving faithfully until 2023. During their tenure, the partnership between DVC and Yeaomchang Church flourished, and together they witnessed DVC's remarkable growth from 70 to 800 students.
The Transition
In August 2023, DVC underwent an administrative transition as leadership shifted from Mr. Yoon Bum Eui, who served faithfully for 13 years, to Dr. Youjin Chung. Under the new missionary administrator, the school embraced a renewed vision for its operations and future growth. In the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025, the DVC population has reached 962 students with 30 faculty and staff.
